"I chose Alpha Phi because it genuinely felt like home to me. I first became interested in the house when my best friend joined the year before I did. Watching her experience the joy of finding her place and forming amazing friendships really inspired me, and I knew I wanted the same for myself! During recruitment, she told me to look for a house where I would feel supported and loved, and Alpha Phi was exactly what I was looking for. From the moment I stepped into the house, I felt a sense of belonging and connection with everyone. The community here is full of strong, compassionate women who uplift each other, and I knew this was the place where I could truly grow and form lifelong friendships."

A letter from our VP of Recruitment

To all the young women who are reading this,

You are about to endure such an exciting chapter of your life, and I want to be one of the first to congratulate you and welcome you to this next adventure at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln! You are being given the opportunity to create a college experience that reflects your values, who you are, and who you want to be in the future! And all of that starts a week before classes - with recruitment!

Participating in Panhellenic recruitment is such an original experience for each individual and is marks the opening of a new chapter in your life for the next four years. This process is one of a kind and gives you an experience that allows you to learn about yourself and meet incredible women while also learning about empowering organizations that you will soon be a part of. With all of this in such a short amount of time, it can be overwhelming, but remember, this is the beginning of a new era where you can dive deeper into who you are and surround yourself with women you strive to become like. Take your week to be authentically yourself. This is YOUR week! Go through the week with an open mind, take time to imagine yourself in each chapter, and let yourself thrive! On the days of recruitment, you will start meeting girls who may be in your wedding one day, the girl that may be your shoulder to lean on throughout school. You are starting to build your life-long friendships while building the person you dream of being. Panhellenic gives you endless opportunities to grow, whether in sisterhood, academics, philanthropy, within yourself and so much more. These rewards will benefit you far beyond your collegiate years.

Three years ago, I was in your shoes, going through recruitment. My best advice is cliche, but be yourself, and you will find your new favorite place. I could never have imagined before recruitment how deep and genuine the connections I made throughout recruitment would be, but going in with an open mind and excitement to meet new people helped me have the best week possible. Each day I went to Alpha Phi, I felt a sense of comfort; the women genuinely cared about getting to know me as a person, supported me throughout my week, and ultimately gave me my first sense of family since moving away to college. Alpha Phi is an incredible group of women who embrace sisterhood, scholarship, leadership, and much more. I am excited for each of you to get to know the incredible women of our chapter.

Take this time during recruitment to prioritize yourself, be yourself, and be confident. This is your process and no one else's! Remember you are beautifully unique, let yourself shine for everyone else to see and enjoy! This week, you will gain invaluable lessons and experiences - live in the moment and enjoy this process. I and my fellow sisters, the women of Alpha Phi, cannot wait to meet and welcome each of you into our beautiful home in August!

Sincerely,

Delaney Huck

WHY I WENT ALPHA PHI

I chose Alpha Phi because the girls’ friendship and sisterhood felt genuine. They were so welcoming and I knew I had found the house where I belonged. Now that I am an A Phi, I couldn’t imagine my life without these girls. They have become my closest friends and I am so grateful to be a part of this sisterhood!

Going into recruitment, I knew I wanted to join a chapter that would give me lifelong friendships and an unforgettable college experience. From the first day of recruitment, Alpha Phi felt like home instantly. The girls made me feel seen and like I was right where I was supposed to be and I wouldn’t trade it for the world!"

I went Alpha Phi because when I saw the older girls, I knew I wanted to be just like them! They all had the brightest smiles on their face and made me feel appreciated and loved. Everyone had a warmth about them. I’m so glad I’m in Alpha Phi because the girls aren’t afraid to be themselves and they truly bring out the best in me!

  • What is Panhellenic Recruitment?
Panhellenic Recruitment is a formal process organized by UNL's Panhellenic Council where students visit each chapter on campus to find the best sisterhood for them. It typically happens in August before classes begin.
  • What does PNM mean?
PNM stands for “Potential New Member.” If you're going through recruitment, you're considered a PNM until you receive and accept a bid to join a chapter.
  • What is Alpha Phi's legacy Policy?
The following is from Alpha Phi International's Website: "We recently voted to make changes to our membership recruitment policy and to remove the preferential treatment given to legacies during recruitment.Previously, a legacy had to receive an invitation to the first invitational round of recruitment and if they accepted an invitation to preference, they must be placed at the top of the bid list.Legacies will still be defined as any daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, stepdaughter, sister or stepsister of an initiated member of Alpha Phi, but chapters will now treat them equally to every other potential new member during the recruitment process. In making this change, we want to remove barriers to access for every potential new member so that Alpha Phi can be a welcoming home to all women. We must give the same opportunity to women whose mothers, grandmothers and sisters did not have the same access to higher education or the ability to join organizations like ours." Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi adheres to and supports this recent change in the Alpha Phi legacy policy.
  • What is a Rho Gamma?
A Rho Gamma (Recruitment Guide) is a current sorority member who temporarily disaffiliates from her chapter to help PNMs navigate recruitment. They're your go-to for questions and support throughout the process!
  • Do I need a letter of recommendation?
While recommendations are not required, they can enhance your application. Any Alpha Phi alumna or collegian can submit a recommendation on your behalf.
  • How can I submit a letter of reccomendation?
Download and fill out this form and submit it to our recruitment team! Please email the completed form to alphaphinurecruitment1@gmail.com or mail it to: Delaney Huck 1531 S Street Lincoln, NE 68508
